The Glorious Details... )

Looks like I kinda have a date tomorrow with girl #2 from "Matey's Ladies". I have a nickname for her: HNC which stands for "Hopefully Not Crazy" because she shares similar ancestry as NM5 and they tend to be stereotypically crazy.

Also I am set to be at the party with WTdelaDG on new years.

10:15 pm - 2009 and Feelin' Fine...oh wait
I will try to abstain from too much bitching about Marlene and being unemployed this year as it was pretty much what I whined about in the last year in review.

The new year began unceremoniously at Big Bear. It was a subtly miserable experience in that I was fine at the time hanging with my boys, but in retrospect, I was completely miserable about everything, thinking about that one girl who I might have mentioned already due to a lack of distractions.

Jobs -
In the last year in review, I wrote "I'm seriously worried, especially with the economy, that my job isn't exactly secure." Well sure enough I was write because one month into 2009, I got laid off the day after having to go to the ER for some weird heart false alarm. I had received the new Springsteen album that day and was anxious to play it on the way home. Instead I talked to a hell of a lot of people out of frustration and humiliation. I was unemployed in 08 for 1 1/2 months. In 09, I was out from February 1st to July 16th. Pretty much 5 1/2 months. Upon realizing that I wasn't going to get a job in 1 1/2 months, I started volunteering at the SF Food Bank twice a week and met a lot of good people and I like to think built up some good karma and got to end up on the local news. I also started training to try to break a 5 minute mile. I dropped my mile time from 6:15 to 5:45 in two weeks and continued training hard for awhile before eventually losing interest. My birthday was in the middle of this mess and I made sure to go out as if I wasn't skint which helped since everyone was trying (and succeeding) at buying me drinks.

I was seriously interviewing for some piss poor paying jobs when I interviewed for something that was really in the realm of my interest. They didn't pick me but they instead referred me to the company I ended up with which has been a god send thus far. First starting in Pleasanton bike/barting and now in Redwood City. I still have a long way to go before I feel secure in my role.

Ladies -
Early in the year, I began hooked up with a girl a few times and tried to date her. I quickly realized she was not my type and ended it, but not before she had developed feelings. I treaded lightly and tried to be as respectful as possible of her feelings as she gushed out to me certain things. I think the drought was pretty long until Marlene came to visit in August. The resulting debacle pushed me to make a concerted effort on match.com which had some surprisingly good and immediate results. Dating NM5 was great. She was cool to hang with and I was definitely attracted to her. Things began to move quickly and we pretty spent the entire labor day weekend together. By the end of september, I was staying over at her place 3-4 nights a week. The day I returned from Florida (see below), she, for all intents and purposes, broke up with me. We tried to stay cool and as I wrote about all too much recently, that failed miserable. I now have an ex I am on absolute terrible terms with. The last Matey's Ladies has the newest batch of girls I am interested in, all long distance so nothing will come of those. Of course the good shit is always unexpected.

And Finally -
There is nothing much to add about my cousin Johnny that I haven't covered thoroughly but that was the biggest hit to me this year (obviously). In the new year I am going to work to do things to better myself and others in his memory (I have plans that I will address later).

I'm going to do my year in review soon and was glancing through last year's to prep. One observation: me whining about being unemployed for a month and a half in 2008? Man I was a pussy then.
Current Mood: Less of a pussy

Christmas Update:
Took the red eye the night of the 22nd after spending an hour strategizing and packing speciality beer bottles into my suitcase (for my stepbrother's gift). I individually packaged each in a ziplock bag (there were six) and some were so big I had to stretch the plastic enough to fit it without tearing it. I then rebuilt a wine box by tearing it apart and recreating it in my suitcase with the bottles in the middle. I then wrapped it all in a giant plastic trash bag just in case any of the six cracked or exploded from the pressure change (two were corked beers). I had a hard time sleeping on the flight because I kept imagining my suitcase showing up at dulles with beer pouring out of the bottom.

The root of this fear was mainly out of common sense but also personal experience. When I was 19, I went to England for Spring Break with my two old hs friends. On the way back, I stopped by duty free and picked up two bottles of smirnoff export strength vodka as it was something I would have a hard time obtaining in the US what with being 19 and all. When I got back to Davis, I opened the suitcase to find only one bottle and my clothes smelling like a certain liquor.

Anyway, the beers showed up fine and pristine. My stepbro and I usually have a history of exchanging not particularly thoughtful gifts which ended this year. Well on my end at least. I also passed time on the plane by watching this John Holmes documentary I had downloaded awhile back and accidentally put on my ipod. Luckily the video was heavily scrambled (irony) so I wasn't waving a giant penis around on BART and a cross country flight for everyone to see.

Christmas was swell and I will write about it later but this is getting too long. I be spending tomorrow in DC with my pops.
Current Location: My sis' place in Annapolis
